This two-day workshop will explore the nature and prevalence of trauma and resulting impacts, introduce and utilize the Occupational Therapy Trauma Intervention Framework (OTTIF; Edgelow & Cramm, 2017), and present holistic practice methods that include families and support networks. It will also highlight the use of the time use intervention “Action Over Inertia” (Krupa et al., 2010) with this population. The workshop will use both small and large group learning methods, and participants will have the opportunity to discuss and share their own practice experiences.
Goals and Learning Objectives:
- Develop a working knowledge of trauma and its impact on daily life;
- Increase understanding of the exposures of first responders, military personnel and Veterans;
- Utilize the evidence informed Occupational Therapy Trauma Intervention Framework (OTTIF);
- Consider a time use intervention perspective for working with this population using “Action Over Inertia”;
- Expand consideration of the impact of trauma on families and support networks;
- Explore opportunities for growth in occupational therapy practice.
