Professional Qualification Program in occupational therapy

Presentation of the program

The Professional Qualification Program in occupational therapy is intended for occupational therapists that graduated from institutions outside of Canada wishing to practise occupational therapy in Quebec with a valid prescription from the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ).

Program strengths and features

This program aims to develop competencies necessary to practise occupational therapy in Quebec. It advocates an academic path adapted to the needs of graduates from outside of Canada. Candidates are integrated into courses taken by students enrolled in the regular occupational therapy programs. A set of activities designed to prepare students for specific courses is also part of the Professional Qualification Program.
Moreover, individual and group support is offered to candidates in order to facilitate their integration and progress towards the practice of occupational therapy in Quebec.

Purpose of the program

The successful completion of the Professional Qualification Program in conformity with the prescription provided by the OEQ allows recognition of the equivalence of the candidate’s training. This training recognition can lead to the delivery of a licence of practice from the OEQ.

This program does not lead to the obtention of a master’s degree in occupational therapy, neither does it allow students to access other university programs.
