Seniors in the emergency department (ED) represent a unique clientele; it is important that they benefit from assessments tailored to their specific situation in order to facilitate both referrals and the planning of health services on discharge for the emergency department. Such assessments performed in emergency departments lead to interventions that have positive impacts on daily activities and level of satisfaction with care, as well as reduce the number of repeat visits to the ED.
OTs interested in developing their assessment skills for the ED will be invited to share professional experiences with other OTs. This continuing education activity will provide them with the basic knowledge related to the assessment of functional status in the emergency.
The proposed workshop will take place through a combination of lectures, group discussions and activities for the integration of knowledge.
- Distinguish the particularities of the occupational therapist practice in the Emergency Department in addition to what is done in acute care.
- Organise the evaluation process by using the FSAS-ED tool, for which the basic principles will be taught during the training.
